A Little Too Early

A few weeks ago, on March 10th, Mommy started having pretty decent contractions.  I had taken Gus for a walk when I got home from work and then we went up to see your cousin Jordan, because he just got home of his mission in Mexico.  That whole afternoon and evening, I was having pretty good contractions every ten or fifteen minutes.  On our way home from seeing Jordan, I had them every five to ten minutes.  When we got home, I got in the shower and then went to bed.  The next morning, I called Julia's nurse and told her what was going on.  They had me come up to their office so they could make sure that everything was okay.  When I got there, Julia did an ultrasound to make sure you were okay and that Mommy's body wasn't doing anything to start labor.  You looked perfect and my body wasn't going in to labor.  They hooked me up to some monitors so they could listen to your heartbeat and watch for any more contractions.  I was hooked up for almost an hour and probably had about seven contractions.  The nurse printed my results out and took them to Julia, who decided that they needed to give me a shot of Terbutaline.  She apologized about having to give it to me and told me it was nasty.  Boy, was she right!  She gave it to me in the back of my arm and it burned horribly as it went in.  Then within a minute or so, it made me shake really bad.  I sat there for about twenty more minutes.  The whole time, I was really emotional!  I was worried about you and worried about you coming too early and Daddy had to work so he wasn't there with me.  Luckily, he was able to leave work early and come home and be with me.  I fell asleep when I got home for a few hours and woke up feeling much better and the good news was that my contractions had slowed down a lot, so the medicine had worked.

Mommy and Daddy were going to go to St. George that weekend and visit Grandma and Grandpa Couch but decided to stay close to home, just in case.  I also had a business trip the next week and was worried about going on that but Julia reassured me that I was okay.  I ended up going on it and got home without any complications, other than some serious feet swelling.  I am glad to say, that I am now done traveling until you are born and I have to go back to work.  I feel much better being close to home, just in case.

After I got home from my trip, I went and had a much needed pedicure!  It really helped the swelling go down and I was able to have my toes painted, since it has become pretty uncomfortable to try and do it myself these days!

I think this situation made us realize how soon you could be here and we have been getting everything more ready for the hospital and also with organizing our house.  We cannot wait to meet you but at the same time, I want to make sure you grow big and healthy before you come!

We love you sweet B!
